Disprin is a pain reliever that can be used to treat headaches, toothaches, and period discomfort. It can also be used to treat aches, pains, and fevers caused by colds and flu. Disprin contains the active component aspirin, which works by inhibiting the function of cyclo-oxygenase, a body enzyme (COX). Anadin, Disprin, Resprin, and Nu-Seals are all brand names for aspirin.
- We examine what Disprin is used for and how it works, as well as potential negative effects and interactions with other medications.
- Headaches, migraines, nerve pain (neuralgia), toothaches, sore throats, and menstrual cramps are all examples of mild to moderate discomfort.
- Taking care of the aches, pains, and fever that come with the typical cold and flu.
- Sprains and strains, rheumatoid arthritis, sciatica, backache, fibrositis, muscle aches and pains, joint swelling, and stiffness are all alleviated.
- In the case of a heart attack in an emergency situation, to enhance survival (unlicensed use).
Disprin should not be administered to children or teenagers under the age of 16 unless a doctor has prescribed it.
How does Disprin Works?
Aspirin is the active component in Disprin pills and Disprin straight tablets. Aspirin works by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme in the body known as cyclo-oxygenase (COX). COX contributes to the formation of prostaglandins, which cause pain, swelling, and inflammation, as well as thromboxane, which causes platelets to clump together and form blood clots. Aspirin suppresses the formation of these compounds by inhibiting the action of COX.
Disprin tablets contain 300mg of aspirin, which decreases prostaglandin production and thereby improves pain and inflammation. Aspirin also reduces fever by decreasing prostaglandin synthesis in the brain. A 300mg aspirin dose has also been demonstrated to improve the chances of surviving a heart attack. Aspirin prevents the blood clot that is obstructing the heart's blood supply from becoming any larger.
Lower doses of aspirin (75-100mg) do not reduce pain or inflammation. It is used as an anti-platelet or 'blood-thinning medication to prevent blood clots, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
How to Use Disprin?
- Each Disprin soluble and Disprin direct pill includes 300mg aspirin.
- Adults and adolescents over the age of 16 should take one to three tablets every four to six hours as needed to treat pain, inflammation, and fever. Take no more than 13 pills (4g) in 24 hours.
- In the event of a suspected heart attack, summon an ambulance. If the victim is not allergic to aspirin, have them take one Disprin pill as a single dose. Keep the packet for the paramedics to see.
- Before consuming Disprin tablets, they should be dissolved in a small amount of water.
- Disprin direct tablets dissolve on the tongue and can be consumed without needing to drink anything.
What You Should Know Before Taking Disprin
- Aspirin is generally well-tolerated, and the majority of people suffer no side effects. The most prevalent adverse effects are those associated with stomach discomforts, such as abdominal pain, indigestion, and nausea. These are mostly avoidable by taking aspirin with food.
- Serious side effects, such as ulcers or bleeding in the stomach or intestines, may occur in rare cases. These are more likely at large doses and in the elderly. If you suffer any signs of stomach or bowel bleeding after taking this medication, such as vomiting blood or passing black/tarry/bloodstained stools, stop taking Disprin immediately and visit your doctor.
- Taking a pain reliever for a headache too frequently or for too long can make the headache worse.
Who should avoid using Disprin?
Is it okay to take Disprin while pregnant?
Disprin should not be taken during the third trimester of pregnancy since aspirin can injure the fetus, as well as delay and extend labor and increase the risk of bleeding in both the mother and the baby during delivery. Before taking Disprin at any other stage of pregnancy, seek medical advice from your doctor.
